So many people wear eye glasses these days. Your neighborhood optical store in Harlem understands hows important it is to find the best pair of eyeglasses for your health needs and your style. Determining which frames to buy is difficult; they should be based on your own coloring and face shape. The professionals at Benjamin Optical can help you make that choice with their large collection of affordable designer eyeglass frames and their knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Oval Face Shape

If you have an oval face shape you can get away with most any glasses. Oval shapes means that your face is proportionately equal throughout. Your chin is not very narrow, but not wide either. Same with your forehead.

You will want to make sure that your glasses do not overpower your features. The main thing you want to steer clear of is large frames. Often times a person with an oval face will have smaller features, which means they will want to have smaller glasses that do not overpower them. Although if you do have a oval face, you will want to wear glasses that are as wide as your widest part of your face, going slightly wider will actually look fine on an oval face.

Heart Face Shape

Heart shape faces are much harder to find a pair that matches our features. You will have wider foreheads, narrow chin, and higher cheekbones.
The styles that would most suit a heart shaped face will have cat eye frame because it will help balance out the narrow chin. Butterfly glasses and round glasses are also good choices.

The ideal glasses will be wider at the bottom than they are at the top, because it offsets your thin chin. Also, you will want to make sure that the glasses go lower, because it will offset your wide forehead. You also want to avoid glasses that are very decorative or wide at the top; while this will only emphasize your already wide forehead and thin chin. Rimless or very dull colors will suit this face shape, because it takes away the emphasis from the upper portion of your face.

Circle Face Shape

Circle faces usually are shorter than oval faces, but still slightly oval in shape. You will have very soft curves and your face will have very few angular features. Therefore, using angles will actually help add balance to their features. By adding angles in the glasses this will sharpen the persons natural features and add definition.

If you tend to have a chubby round face, then you want more horizontally wide rectangular frames. This will help thin your face, and make it appear longer as well. Also glasses that are slightly higher than the average pair of glasses, around mid to high on the temples. This will help lengthen the face as well. You also want to avoid glasses that are too big for you, as this will only make your face appear even wider.

Round faces usually have eyes that are closer together; therefore, if this is you, make sure you pick out glasses that have a clear bridge over the nose. This will help your eyes look further apart than they naturally are.

Square Face Shape

A square shaped face will usually be proportionate in both length and width. Wider forehead and wider chin. To offset your angular features it is best to use rounder or oval glasses. This will help soften your facial features.Other great glasses would be cat-eye or butterfly frames, because glasses should be more prominent horizontally than vertically. The more narrow the height is, will offset the squareness of your face giving it more of a longer appearance. Subtle rimless frames with soft edges will also soften facial features.

You should also look for glasses that connect at the temples either at the top of the frame or more center set. The lower they are set at the temples will draw attention to your chin, which will only emphasize your broad chin. The higher it is set, will give you more of a delicate look. Another great look is to have a prominent brow bar on your glasses. This will cause your eye to appear higher, and in turn will make your face seem longer.

Colored Contacts

Get Your Eyes Examined At  Benjamin Optical, Make An Eye Appointment Today!

Whether you want to turn heads every day, make your eyes match your mood, or just change your eye color for a special occasion. You will get great quality lenses and save money at the same time  when you shop at Benjamin Optical for contact lenses. We value customers like you and believe in fair pricing and service.

Taking Care of your Colored Contacts

Washing your hands and any surface that the contact lens may touch is essential for hygiene purposes. Believe it or not, this is the most important step in order to avoid damaging your contacts or even worse, your eyes. Use a mild soap, preferably without any scents or lotions, along with a lint-free towel.  Whether you’re opening a multi-pack or an individual package be sure to shake it gently before opening. Occasionally, the lens may be stuck to the inside and this will avoid any damage from occurring. It is also helpful to rest the package on a counter top to avoid splashing or potentially losing a contact lens.

Removing Contacts from Package

When removing each individual lens, make it a habit to use your finger tips and never your finger nail. Using your finger nails could damage the lens; you should not use the lens if this happens. Verify that the lens has no scratches, nicks, or tears. Also, check it over thoroughly to be sure that it is clear in color and has nothing on it. Next, you want to be sure that the lens is not inside out. When holding the lens on your fingertip, the edges should turn inward and be shaped like a bowl. If the lens has flared edges, it is inside out and you will need to carefully flip it.

Putting the Lens on Your Eye

It is important to always start with your right eye, and be sure that the lens is right side up. Carefully place your forefinger or middle finger on your lower eye lid, and your other hand to lift the upper lid. Place the lens on your eye, and carefully close your eye lids. The lens will center itself within a few seconds of blinking. Repeat with left eye. If it does not center automatically, close your eye and massage the lens into place.

Removing the Lens

Remember to always wash your hands prior to removal. There are many different methods to remove your contacts; however, I find the easiest way is the “Pinch Method”. When using the Pinch Method, you simply look up and use your forefinger and thumb to pinch the lens out of your eye.
- Washing, rinsing, and drying your hands before and after touching the lenses is essential.
- Always check expiration dates on both the contacts and the saline solution if and when it’s used.
- Never use tap water to clean lenses or cases; use only saline solution.
- Store the contacts in a cool and dry place. Always keep eye drops handy, in case the contact feels dry in your eye.
- Keep your contact case clean, with saline solution. Empty, Rinse, and Replace is our motto.
- Lastly, always keep your lens case closed. Leaving it open, can cause bacteria to enter it or it could cause the contact to dry out.

Designer Eyeglasses

Designer Eyeglasses

Designer eyeglass frames are generally qualified by the brand of the manufacturer. Many brands are associated with high quality products that are as durable as they are fashionable. The best place to find these designer eyeglasses frames, as far as price is concerned, is the internet. The only problem with buying designer eyeglasses frames on the internet is that you cannot guarantee the authenticity of the glasses unless you are buying them from a particularly reputable dealer. Also, these items are generally expensive and so you will want them to fit you properly. Online, you will need to provide your pupillary distance measurements and your prescription so if you do not have up to date information, you may want to consider buying them in person.designer eyeglass frames

As far as styles are concerned, many of the biggest designers are following a retro trend this year that harks back to the 1960s Buddy Holly style of thick plastic frames. In 2010, the Versace eyeglasses came out with a classic eyeframe look that resembles the types of glasses you would see on a 1960s newscaster as one example of this current trend. Also, many celebrities are wearing the thick plastic frames this year such as Johnny Depp, Seth Rogen, Rivers Cuomo, and Jonah Hill. The nice thing about plastic frames is that they can come in nearly any shape or color that you would like. As a result, many of the trends include significantly more audacious looks than has been popular in recent years.

Another option that has arisen is the personally tailored set of eyeglasses. Many aspects of eyeglasses are more or less flattering on certain head shapes and this company will customize a style so that it flatters your face as much as possible. For this option, you need to find an optometrist that offers this and they will then have you come in and take measurements as if you were purchasing a new suit. The new glasses will be produced from their findings.

A great way to find cheaper designer prescription eyeglasses is through the internet. The key with purchasing the glasses over the internet is just having accurate information on your prescription and pupillary distance. As many sites have a no-return policy on designer prescription eyeglasses due to the custom nature of the lenses, the accurate information will keep you from having glasses that are too wide or too tight to fit comfortably on your ears.

Much like any expensive item that you purchase on the internet, you will want to research the retailer as much as you research the item. This is to safeguard you from purchasing designer eyeglass frames that are merely a knock-off of the advertised brand.
